A national-level Taekwondo player has expressed her deep anguish to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after she was allegedly asked to pay INR 1.5 lakh to secure her selection at the international level, despite winning gold at the national championship.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met school students as a part of ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Vidyarthi Manthan’ (Chief Minister Youth Student Conclave), where students of 11 and 12 from all 2828 registered government, non-government and private institutions and colleges participated in the programme.

The initiative aims to provide students with a platform to share their ideas, suggestions and concerns directly with the government, with Pushkar Singh Dhami listening to participants' grievances and outlining the state’s administration’s commitment to empower youth through educational and career opportunities.

Taekwondo Player Breaks Down Over Allegations

As Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami interacted with students, the event took a controversial turn after a Taekwondo player raised allegations of being asked to pay an amount for her participation at the international level.

In a video that went viral on social media, a girl stood up and revealed that she recently won the gold medal at the national level, but was asked to pay INR 1.5 lakh for her selection to compete at the international level. The Taekwondo player broke down while explaining that the alleged that the demand left her unable to represent India.

“Recently, I participated in the Taekwondo nationals, where I won a gold medal. From there, I have secured selection for international events, but they were demanding money, INR 1.5 lakh rupees, for the international selection. Because of this, I wasn't able to go play internationally," the distressed athlete recounted before breaking down.

However, instead of addressing grave allegations within the sports administration, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami was seen cutting her short, telling her to sit down, before briefly asking for her school name and instructing officials to note it down.

Taekwondo Player Clarifies Alleged Bribe Demand

A few days after attending CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s student outreach programme, where the Taekwondo player alleged that she was asked to pay INR 1.5 lakh for international selection, she issued a clarification on the allegations.

In another video, the Taekwondo player, identified as a Class 12 student named Sahra, stated that she had travelled to Jammu to participate in the national championships and had qualified for an international tournament in Romania. She added that the organisers provided INR 1.7 lakh towards the expenses, while the remaining amount had to be paid by her. However, she did not inform anyone at her school and, as a result, could not travel to Romania.

“I went to CM sir's programme where I couldn't tell all the information about myself. My selection was in Jammu, and I had gone there for the National Games. For international games, I got selected to participate in Romania. They were giving me a fee of INR 1.7 lakh, and the rest was to be paid by myself," the student said.

"I didn't tell anybody in the school or anybody else. Because she couldn't go to Romania," he added.

Sikkim-based biker Elina was riding to Umling La when she spotted another woman rider at the high-altitude pass. Excited to see another woman on a motorcycle, Elina walked up to her and started a conversation.

“I met a woman rider for the first time,” Elina said, visibly happy to have found another female biker at the remote location.

The other rider introduced herself as Lakshmy from Kerala. What started as a simple introduction soon became an emotional conversation that touched thousands of people online.

When Elina asked Lakshmy how she was feeling after reaching Umling La, the Kerala biker revealed that she had been crying throughout much of the ride. Though no action has been taken against those responsible for the incident, Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA), Roshini Singh, stated that a thorough investigation has been launched to verify the facts. The investigation has reportedly been given to the Assistant Basic Shiksha Adhikari (ABSA).

After the investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against those found responsible if the allegations are substantiated, BSA Roshini Singh said. Since the investigation is reportedly underway, findings of the probe will determine whether disciplinary or legal action is initiated against those found responsible for the alleged incident.

The newspapers are largely produced by students from Classes 10 to 12. From collecting information to taking photographs, recording videos and conducting interviews, students take part in almost every stage of the process. They also write and edit stories, prepare graphics and work on page layouts.

Some students work as reporters, while others take on roles such as photographers, graphic designers, news writers and editorial assistants.

Teachers remain involved as guides and mentors, helping students understand how journalism works and checking the content before publication.

An editorial board has also been formed to oversee the newspaper. It includes school principal Dr Yogendra Singh Naruka, teacher Pooja Patidar and selected students.

The idea came from a simple problem

Naruka, who has studied journalism, told news agency PTI that he noticed a lack of newspapers in many students' homes after taking charge of the school in Raholi. He also felt that the achievements and activities taking place at the school were not getting enough attention from larger newspapers.

He recalled that whenever a school achievement was covered in a newspaper, students would repeatedly read the report, show it to their classmates and feel proud.

That experience gave him the idea of creating a newspaper within the school itself.

First issue published in 2023

Before starting the newspaper, the school had published a book based on its three-year development plan during the 2022 academic session. After that effort, the first issue of Raholi Shiksha Samachar was published in 2023. Naruka initially paid for it himself. Teachers later came forward to support the project, helping the newspaper continue regularly.

The print edition is published monthly, quarterly or on special occasions, depending on the time and funds available.

The school does not receive separate government funding for the newspaper. According to Naruka, teachers voluntarily contribute towards its printing and distribution. Copies are then given to students free of cost.

For the students involved, the project offers more than just something to read.

It gives them a chance to ask questions, find stories, work as a team and understand how news is created. It also allows them to see their own achievements in print.

In a school where many children had limited access to newspapers at home, the initiative has turned the school itself into a small newsroom — and its students into the people telling its stories.

The Pitbull first attacked the woman before her husband rushed forward to shield her, only for the ferocious animal to turn its aggression toward him.

The husband continued to protect her wife despite he was bravely fighting a raging animal before the locals quickly intervened with sticks to force the beast back inside the premises. By the time locals came to their rescue, the couple were seriously injured and rushed to a nearby private hospital in Patiala for treatment.

27-Year-Old Software Engineer Dies After Car Crashes Into Electric Pole In Kerala's Kakkanad

A 27-year-old software engineer working at Kerala's Kakkanad’s Infopark died in a tragic car accident in the early hours of Tuesday. The victim was identified as Devanand, a resident of Kavunkal in the 21st ward of Mannancherry Panchayat in Alappuzha.

Devanand was travelling with his friends in a car on a road near Infopark when the vehicle lost control and crashed into a metal electric pole. Devanand was sitting in the back seat when the accident happened. The impact was so strong that the rear door of the car flew open, throwing him out onto the road.

He suffered a severe head injury in the crash.

Devanand was immediately taken to a private hospital in Ernakulam. However, doctors could not save him, and he later died from his injuries.

Devanand was the son of Kunjumon, also known as Ambu, and Shailaja.

Following the accident, Devanand’s body was taken for a post-mortem examination at Kalamassery Medical College Hospital.
